DAILY DIAPER #233 "Moving Over The Waters!"

A nice little scene to help me stretch my sea legs. Waves, especially ones that are coming right at you, can be maddening to paint, but also kinda fun.

I picked up this Donkey Kong a couple years back at a Barnes and Nobles, and like so many things in my still life closet I have yet to get around to painting him. I did come up with and idea for a piece that I still plan on doing called "1933" with this guy climbing up a Lego Empire State building which I have, holding some type of woman (but I haven't worked that one out yet), with toy planes flying all around him. 1933 by the way is the year the original King Kong movie came out. So I guess this is a warm up piece for something to come.

DAILY DIAPER #230 "Classic Sucker"

To bid on this painting click the diaper below.
I was going through my still life closet and came across a couple of old suckers that I had taken from my bank a while back with the intent on putting them in a still life. A while has passed and they didn't make it into any still life so why not put them into a portrait.

DAILY DIAPER #229 "Christmas Colors" **SOLD**

I am starting to really love painting these ornaments. This one is paired with an object from my past. One of my favorite, if not the favorite, thing to play with from my childhood, Crayons. This obviously is not the box that I used from my childhood but certainly could of been. It came to me in a lot from an estate auction and the box is easily 20 years old if not older. I've been wanting to put it into a piece for some time now, so here it is in all it's 48 color glory.

DAILY DIAPER #228 "The Pipe Smoker"

Another piece for the DPW challenge of doing a painting in the style of an artist you admire. I must admit this is a study from a painting that I did by an artists whose name, unfortunately, escapes me! The work was in the Orientalist tradition and might of been a Gerome or a Bonnard, both French painters of this tradition whom I admire greatly. I took a small swatch of the piece, this grizzled old man, and focused in on him for the study. This piece is also a bit larger than I normally put on DPW at 8x8".

DAILY DIAPER #227 "Fantin Latour" **SOLD**

This is a piece that I have done for another DPW challenge, the "Picasso It" challenege. Basically painting in the style of a painter I admire. This particular piece was done in the 'style' of Henri Fantin Latour. Although not one of the painters that I would put in my top five . . . I frequently saw his work throughout my apprenticeship at The Atelier and many of the fine folks that came and went through this school gravitated towards his floral work and painterly style. I admit, up front, I do not have the dexterity of brushwork that he had, but come on the guy probably had been painting night and day for 30 years! Anyway I had this group of flowers and saw the challenge and decided "What the heck" the fates and my instructors exposed me to his work for some reason. . . buying diaper is as good of a one as any.
