#293 "Taking The Lead"

I'm a huge dog fan, always have been and always will be, but I have to say my preference has always been for the larger breeds. These guys and there vertically challenged brethren seem to be everywhere these days. I loved the way this little guy just popped with the sand and water behind him.

#291 "The Sunset Walk"

There were so many things I liked about this shot. The intense warm light coming from the setting sun, the hazy hills in the background giving the sense of deep space, and the wonderful little dog puttering along right towards the viewer.

#290 "Testing The Waters"

This guy seemed a little 'iffy' on wading right out there, but eventually I'm sure he made it.

#289 "Fill Er' Up!"

I think I kinda mentioned I liked this DPW challenge. After I finished the first painting I started thinking about another painting that would have a couple water balloons in it and as I was filling this guy up, I had one of those "hold that pose" moments. So here it is. On a material/painters note. . . . this little painting gave me an opportunity to try a new color that my buddy that runs the local art store in town gave me a sample tube of, Alizarin Orange. Very nice color.

#288 "Just Add Water"

This little guy is a Daily Paintworks Challenge that required you to use a water balloon in the painting in one way or another. I actually had never painted one or even thought to, and I must say that I loved the idea of it. All sorts of things popped (no pun intended... ok maybe a little one) into my head. So one of my favorite coffee cups, that I frequently use Starbucks Via instant coffee in, seemed like a nice pairing to this little challenge.

#287 "Towards the Fun!"

Another little beach scene from our trip to Hilton Head. No matter how far you walked there was always something going on a little farther ahead.

#285 Table Top

Another Alla Prima study of a section of my taboret. I've had this old jam jar for years now, and I put about twenty layers of masking tape on it way back when so it could sit in a whole in the tray of my easel to give me a place to put my brushes close by. That has since fallen by the wayside but jar still finds itself close to my easel.

#284 Vintage Espresso

I've got a few still lifes going right now that I am taking to a high finish and I needed a bit of a break. All that slow tap tap tap can drive you crazy. So I decided to do a few alla prima studies. This first guy is dear to my heart. Espresso and colors that pop are must haves in my life.

#283 Torrit Portrait ARTBYTE

This is a 5x7 value study that I recently did for my ArtByte demonstration on Daily Paintworks. The portrait was done using Gamblin's Torrit Grey and White. The Artbyte contains three time lapse videos of the painting process from start to completion as well as some of my techniques, materials, and tips.
