Braeburn Peel #5

Another peeled apple. There is always a supply of these little models in my house and though I do paint whole apples I really do enjoy I painting the contrast of the skin next to the flesh of the fruit.

"Minnesota Inspiration #2" Finished

This next set of paintings is inspired by a painter I crossed paths with in Minnesota. I had the opportunity to see a painting this artist did of a watermelon with a small little plug cut out of it on a table. The way that the watermelon and all of its wonderful colors was painted has stayed with me for well over ten years now. I can still see it, still feel it. These pieces are a tribute to that memory and in a way to that artist who had a very profound affect on me. (There might be a few people out there from the land of cold and snow that know the artist that I am referring to:)

Summer Slice #4

A couple years back I painted a few watermelons for a project that I participated in that required me to produce 50 small paintings. We were in the middle of the season for these guys and I decided they make a nice simple subject. The ways the greens and red interact with each other make striking color contrasts that are truly fun to study and paint.
