This is a small study that I did for a larger piece that I plan on painting. I just loved the combination of the extremely intense light greens and the deep rich reds. Cherries have always bee a favorite of mine to paint. . . in a way they have a very seductive and ever so slightly evil feel to them and when they are in season I try not to miss the opportunity to paint (and eat) them.

Another unusually sized still life that I did for a show a few months back. This little guy measures 5.25x5.25" and like the one before cam to life because of some leftover frame material that I didn't want to throw out. So I cam up with this still life. The sunoco can came from an estate sale a couple of years back and was just the right size for this piece. . . the potatoes are always a staple in the Burt household, and the fly. . . well I seemed like this little funky still life sundae needed a funky cherry to go on top!

I've picked a few beach shells up in my day but this mom and son were really looking for the right one on this day. I liked this scene for the wonderful colors that were bouncing around the figures and the water . . . it reminded me of a Sorolla painting.

This is a smaller piece that I did that has a few of my favorite things to paint in it. The trompe l'oeil frame that is painted in giving the piece a strange 3-d feel, a small comic strip cutout, and the ever present thumb tack. Strawberries can always be fun to paint as well. This is a smaller unusual size for me to paint. . . 4x4" and it came about because I had some leftover framing material and this was the largest size I could get out of it. So included with this piece is the frame. I don't know if I'll be painting any 4x4's in the near future! With the frame the total size of this piece is roughly 9x9.
